When freshmen come to the POAS department, everyone wants to immediately make beautiful websites or write bots for Telegram. But in the schedule, they see things like "Databases" or "Probability Theory." The question often arises, “Why would I want to be a web developer?”
Databases (SQL) are the heart of any application
The interface is just a beautiful wrapper. The real life of the project takes place in the database. An incorrectly designed table or SQL query curve can cause your marketplace to stop working as soon as more than a hundred people visit it. At the department, we teach building reinforced concrete data architecture that withstands high loads (HighLoad). This is the skill that distinguishes Senior Developer from Junior.
Probability theory is the key to analytics and AI
It seems that mathematics ends in the first year, but it is not. Whether you want to move into the trendy areas of data science, machine learning, or recommendation systems, probability theory and mathematical statistics will be your main working tool. It is this knowledge that allows the algorithm to decide what product to offer to the user or how neural networks recognize the face in the photo.
Fundamental disciplines are not a boring theory for passing an exam. These are the same load-bearing structures, without which your future software product will simply fold up like a house of cards.
