From junior to architect: What competences a graduate of the PAS department receives
Professions
Purpose: Summarize the skill set (hard and soft skills) with which the student enters the job market.
When a student receives a bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering at VolgSTU, he enters the market not just as “a person who knows the syntax of a pair of languages.” He has a comprehensive set of competencies (T-shaped specialist).
Technical skills (hard skills):
Full-stack development: Free possession of modern stack. On the backend is Python (Django/FastAPI) or C#, on the frontend is React, new generation builders (Vite) and an understanding of the modern component approach.
Data management: Ability to design complex relational databases, write optimized SQL queries, and work with ORM.
Architecture: Understanding client-server interaction, REST API, microservice architecture and SOLID principles.
Broad outlook and product thinking:
UI/UX design: A graduate of PAS understands that the interface must be not only functional, but also aesthetic, meet the rules of usability and modern visual trends.
DevOps base: The ability not only to write code locally, but also to package it, deploy it to the server and configure basic delivery pipelines.
The main competence of our graduate is engineering courage. Thanks to constant practice on laboratory and team projects, our students are not afraid to take on unfamiliar technologies, quickly learn and are able to design a complex product from scratch that will meet the most stringent requirements of the IT market.
